Rainy Days in Bali? No Worries!
Heading to Bali between late November and mid March means you are visiting during the wet season. But what does that actually mean for your holiday? It really depends on the year. Sometimes Bali has a couple of months of steady rain, but more often you will just get a quick afternoon downpour or rain overnight then the sun comes cracking through again. Because it is still lovely and warm, the rain does not have to stop the fun. Most places will give you an umbrella, and if you pack a light rain jacket you are set. If you do wake up to a soggy day, here are some of our favourite ways to keep the family entertained.

Because it is still lovely and warm, the rain does not have to stop the fun. Most places will give you an umbrella, and if you pack a light rain jacket you are set.
If you do wake up to a soggy day, here are some of our favourite ways to keep the family entertained.
A Day at Bali Zoo
Even if the clouds open up, a day at Bali Zoo is still a top outing. If a heavy downpour starts, you can take shelter in the massive aviary enclosure. It has a great mesh canopy that offers plenty of cover. While you wait for the shower to pass, you can watch the giant fruit bats hanging upside down or even have a go at feeding them fruit on a stick. It is a brilliant way to see the animals up close while staying dry.
Terrace Views at Cretya Ubud
If you want to see the famous rice terraces without trudging through the mud, head to Cretya Ubud. They have stunning tiered pools and views, but the best part for a rainy day is their massive undercover dining areas. You can grab a table under the giant thatched roofs and enjoy the view of the valley and the rain falling on the jungle while staying completely dry. It is a great spot to relax with a feed and watch the mist roll over the hills.
Indoor Fun and Games
If you want to stay completely out of the elements, head to one of the big malls in Sanur or the Legian and Kuta areas. They are perfect for a shopping spree if you need some new bits and bobs, or catching a new flick at the cinema. For the kids, check out:
AeroXSpace Adventure: A massive indoor park to burn off some energy.
Timezone or Shooters: Classic arcade games and mini golf.
Element Family Fun: Located at Lippo Mall, it is a winner for younger kids.
Get Wet Anyway
If you are already going to get splashed, why not go all in? Waterbom Bali is actually great in the rain. There are fewer crowds and you are wearing swimmers anyway. The same goes for ATVs. Ripping through the muddy tracks on a quad bike is heaps more fun when it is wet and messy.
Chase Total Waterfalls
Rainy season is actually the best time to see Bali’s waterfalls at their most powerful. Head over to Tegenungan Waterfall. When it has been raining, the fall becomes a thundering curtain of water. There are great covered lookout spots where you can get that iconic photo without getting your camera soaked, and the lush green jungle surrounding it looks incredibly vibrant in the wet.
Caught to Plate: A Proper Long Lunch
For the couples and groups, a rainy afternoon is the perfect excuse for a slow lunch. There is nothing better than sitting in a traditional thatched roof restaurant (a Wantilan style building) and digging into a platter of fresh grilled fish caught that morning.
You can enjoy your seafood and a few cold Bintangs while you listen to the rain hit the tropical leaves. It is a very peaceful way to spend an afternoon and there is no better way to wait for a tropical storm to pass than with good food and good company.
Don't let a bit of water dampen your spirits. Grab your thongs and an umbrella and get out there. Bali is beautiful in every weather.
