If you want to experience the real Bali away from the busy resort strips, a day trip up to the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces is hard to beat.

Protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this breathtaking landscape remains untouched by modern commercial development. Stepping out into the cool mountain air here feels like stepping back into Bali of days gone by, where traditional subak water sharing systems still feed hundreds of hectares of lush green paddies tumbling down the slopes of Mount Batukaru.

Getting there is half the enjoyment. Leaving behind the coastal bustle, the drive from the Denpasar area, Sanur, Seminyak, or Canggu takes around one and a half to two hours depending on morning traffic. Once you clear the outer suburbs, the roads wind gently through quiet traditional villages, fruit stalls, and rolling green hills. With your own private driver handling the narrow roads and scooter traffic, you can simply sit back in air conditioned comfort and take in the changing countryside.

For an extra fun element, we can arrange transport in a VW open top jeep. Feel the wind in your hair and experience the journey in a whole different way as you take in the beautiful scenery.

When you arrive, the sheer scale of the green amphitheatre opens right up in front of you. You can take a relaxed, gentle stroll along well maintained paved walking paths right through the heart of the terraces. It is an easy walk that suits all fitness levels, with plenty of spots to pause, snap photos, and watch local farmers tending the crops.

After your walk, settle in at one of the hillside open air restaurants for a relaxed lunch. Nothing compares to enjoying delicious local Indonesian dishes or a cold drink while looking out over endless tiers of vivid green rice paddies stretching into the distance.

Whether you are travelling with young children, visiting as a couple, or looking for a peaceful day out with gentle walking and zero stress, Jatiluwih is an absolute must see on your holiday itinerary. We take care of every transfer and detail from your hotel door, so you can enjoy the journey at your own pace. Send us a message to organise your private day trip to Jatiluwih.
